Sweet Satisfaction

I've become so accustomed to starting my day at the cafe with my pastry and cappuccino then making my way to the gelato shop when the afternoon heat starts to melt the make-up right off my face and then bidding farewell to my day by devouring some type of devilish dessert! This would not be the case on a usual day in Texas...the ice cream, maybe...but I condone this behavior because of all the walking I do. My professor doesn't seem to believe in busses or taxis! My feet keep screaming at me about the cruel and unusual punishment, but I've got a pedi waiting for me when I get back to the states! I hope I'll be able to regain my normal routine as quickly as possible...most importantly, my sleep schedule!

All roads lead to Roma

Does anyone remember the Mary-Kate and Ashley movie "When in Rome"? I do! Specifically, the part when they go to the Trevi fountain and throw in their coins..that was the moment I fell in love with Italy. Since then I've so badly wanted to throw a coin of my own into that fountain. And with the biggest smile of satisfaction, I can now put another "check" on my bucket list!

When in Rome..

I just got back from Roma! I wish we had had more than two days there. There was so much packed in to that trip that there wasn't enough time in the schedule to stop and tie your shoe! I saw the colosseum, the Pantheon, the Sistine Chapel, Saint Peters, the Vatican. There was enough to make your head spin! But it was worth it!

Day 6

Classes finally started! Never thought I'd be excited about school...but here I am! 9-2 mon-fri...surprisingly the day went by rather quickly. My professor is letting us all try our hand at print making. I almost wanted to change my major until I realized how horrible I was at it. But I'm having fun none the less!

We saw more museums today...I'm up to 538 pictures. All the paintings and sculptures are starting to blur together. I'm just itching to do some traveling to Milan, Rome, cinque terre...my list of places to go and things to see is so long I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to extend my stay, in which case I'll be in need of a roommate..any takers?

Culture shock!

Yes, culture shock is a real thing.  And I am not afraid to admit to having experienced it personally. Being cooped up in a plane for 15 hours...jet lag...craving a REAL meal (instead of airplane peanuts)...plus getting lost in a completely foreign country by myself is not the way I planned on starting off my trip.  However, after a good night's sleep in a toasty, very toasty bed, I was over it. Thank goodness!

It's only day 3 and I'm just now being able to stop and breathe. There's so much rich culture in Italy. Between the cappuccino, art work, espresso, all the different pastas...and the Italian men (wink wink), I'm beginning to think 4 weeks won't be long enough!

I've already learned so much here and taken more photos than my camera can handle and class hasn't even started yet!

Just a taste..

Dream Come True

There isn't a happier girl on this planet! Italy has been a dream of mine for who knows how long.. And with the help of my college and my (AWESOME) parents, my dream is becoming a reality! In twenty-four short hours I'll be on a flight to Florence, Italy. I'll be taking two classes over 4 weeks. (Can't wait to put that on my resume!) Don't worry...You'll be going with me! I'm going to keep a travel diary while I'm there. There is no way I could keep all the magnificence that is Italy to myself!

Well...I better start packing!

Business Woman "Glow"

It's OFFICIAL! I own a boutique! Well....sorta. It's like a store within a store. I rent a space. 8x8 to be exact. I know it doesn't seem like a lot but it's baby steps!! I was never one of those little girls that wanted to be a princess when they grew up or the first woman president. Or anything specifically.. I couldn't just pick ONE job! I had multiple choices but I couldn't make up my mind. I first wanted to be a dental hyginest, then a fashion designer, which turned in to wanting to be a model (ha ha ha). As college years were fast approaching, I eventually narrowed it down...interior designer or open a bakery!  I've gone back and forth between the two for a WHILE! But it's come to my attention that I want my own business. Subconsciously, I've always wanted my own business. I like being my own boss. And now, with the help of my supportive mother, the ball is rolling! Pink Posh. Or "Pink Purse" as Jake (bro #2) calls it. Last Saturday was its unofficial opening. I didn't have much inventory.. But I'm slowly getting the hang of things!

Some Things Don't Make Sense

Some things just don't make sense.

  • Guys-nuff said.
  • States without beaches.
  • Bathing Suits-we're not bathing
  • Smoke alarms in the kitchen.
  • Gas prices
  • Guys-did I say that already?
  • Training bras-what are they training us for?
  • Swimming pools closed on Memorial Day
And here's a little story to explain the last one...

My mom and I just got back from a mini vaca in Galveston. She and I are still in "beach mode". Just layin' around on the beach not a care in the world. Time just doesn't seem to exist. She came to visit me for the Memorial Day weekend and we wanted to lay by the pool...not a chance! Pool's closed on Monday. Boo! And NO EXCEPTIONS! ...even on holidays. We were not about to let this defeat us...we went in search of a sunny patch of green paradise. We found the perfect spot! Right next to the grill pit.. nestled in between two apartment buildings. We laid out our lawn chairs, got all lathered up in tanning lotion, and we were set. The chirping birds were no rolling waves but it was better than nothing. But oh, that Texas heat! We only lasted 35 mins. until we were so drenched in sweat we couldn't even hold our books! Ew! So next came plan C....shopping!
Mother/daughter Galveston trip
Oh when my mother and I shop......we seem to do things backwards. I found the cutest pair of red wedges and she, an orange ring. We stood there, thinking of what we had to wear with these items, when it hit me! "We can just buy an outfit to go with it!" And that's exactly what we did..
